WebTasker Privacy Policy
WebTasker is a browser extension that checks web pages you choose and tells you when something new appears. This policy explains what it can see, what it stores, and what leaves your device. It is written to match how the extension actually works.
The short version
- WebTasker has no accounts and no WebTasker server that receives your data.
- Your tasks, results and settings stay on your device.
- Nothing is sent anywhere unless you use the optional AI summaries feature with your own AI account. It is off by default.
- You can download or delete everything at any time from Settings.
What WebTasker accesses
- Sites you choose. WebTasker asks your permission for each site when you create a task there. It opens that site on your schedule, in the background, while your browser is open, and reads the part of the page you selected. You can remove access to any site in Settings, which pauses that site's tasks.
- The page you are viewing, only while you are creating a task, so you can select the part to watch.
WebTasker does not read your browsing history, your other tabs, or sites you have not added.
What is stored on your device
- Your tasks: name, address, selected part of the page, schedule and notification choice.
- The items it has seen on those pages (titles, links, dates and short text extracted from the page) and the results of each check.
- Your settings, such as quiet hours.
- If you connect an AI account, your API key, stored encrypted in the extension's storage.
Results older than 30 days are removed automatically, and each task is kept under a size limit. Deleting a task removes its saved data. “Delete all my data” in Settings erases tasks, results, settings and saved keys, and removes access to all sites. Uninstalling the extension also removes its stored data.
Optional: AI summaries with your own account
If you connect your own AI account (Anthropic, OpenAI or Google) and agree for a specific task, WebTasker sends a short extract of the new items found on that task's page to that provider so it can write a summary. Your API key goes only to that provider. The provider's own terms and privacy policy apply to what you send them.
WebTasker never sends content to an AI provider from banking, payment, email or patient-portal sites, or from sites you add to your own exclusion list. If an AI request fails, you get the normal list of new items instead. You can switch AI off for a task at any time and disconnect your key in Settings. You can set a monthly spending limit; the running cost shown is an estimate.
Usage statistics
WebTasker includes an optional setting for anonymous usage counts, which is off unless you turn it on. In this version no collection service is connected, so nothing is sent even if the setting is on. If that ever changes, the events will contain only coarse categories and numbers with a random, resettable ID, never web addresses, task names or page content, and this policy will be updated first.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
- We do not collect your identity, email, location or browsing history.
- We do not receive your tasks, results or API keys.
Security
The API key is encrypted before it is stored, using a key kept by your browser. This protects against casual reading of your profile files, but not against someone who controls your browser profile. Using an API key with limited permissions and a spending limit at your AI provider is recommended.
Children
WebTasker is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
